Diverting Waste at Papamoa Plaza

We diverted 5.39 tonnes of waste from going into landfill at Papamoa Plaza during our construction of the Large Format Retail.

We achieved 14% above the regional target using 3 consistent habits.

1. Separating waste streams properly on site (GIB, metal, plastic, timber).

2. Tracking volumes weekly so the numbers stayed visible to the whole team.

3. Treating it as part of the build program, not an afterthought at the end of it.

We’re happy to have kept just over 1 tonne of CO2e out of the ground, and had an 84% diversion rate, well past the 70% regional target.

Construction generates a huge amount of waste globally, and most of it is avoidable with the right systems in place on site.
